Designs on being  green…
Babel client the Sloane Group hosted a round table debate to encourage retailers to put ‘green’ concerns at the top of their agenda when it comes to store design.

In the retail industry store lifecycles are short as retailers keep up with ever changing consumer tastes and competitor re-branding. To avoid the inevitable waste this creates, UK leading retail design and fixtures and fittings manufacturer, The Sloane Group hosted a debate with the support of Babel Marketing & PR to discuss how the industry can bridge the gap between good store design with minimal environmental impact by inviting major retailers known for good sustainable practice – Tesco, Lloyds TSB and the Body Shop International. De Montfort University were also invited to discuss how the research they are doing for Sloane will set a new benchmark in sustainable store design.

The debate was held at the stylish Quaglinos restaurant in St James’ in central London. It provided an ideal opportunity for the Sloane Group to not only discuss its innovative research project which is soon to be completed, but to consider the ‘barriers’ that are still preventing many retailers and their suppliers from taking the steps needed to make the store environment more sustainable.

After much heated debate it was agreed that greater collaboration and a long-term approach to working with their suppliers would yield the best opportunity for innovative thinking to tackle these concerns. It was only by working together in this way that lasting sustainable solutions could be found.

The entire event will be featured in the UK’s only retail design title, Total Retail Magazine. Please visit www.total-retail-magazine.co.uk
